Loudness Penalty preview
VANCOUVER: July 18th, 2018 - MeterPlugs’ Loudness Penalty website, www.loudnesspenalty.com, now supports “Loudness Preview,” allowing you to preview the playback loudness of your music on YouTube, Spotify, TIDAL, Pandora and iTunes (with Sound Check) and make direct comparisons to reference material on these services, all from your browser.
The website calculates how much your music will be turned down (or up) by each streaming service - the so-called “Loudness Penalty” - and applies the appropriate gain as you preview your music.
Simply drag n' drop your audio file onto the website, wait for it to process, and click play. Then switch between the different streaming services to see how the playback loudness of your music will be adjusted by each one. The website can also be opened in multiple browser tabs and used to compare alternative mixes or masters of a song to help decide which sounds best when loudness normalized.
Mastering engineer Ian Shepherd, who worked with MeterPlugs developing the website, says “The Loudness Penalty website instantly eliminates ‘loudness deception,’ allowing you to make real-world comparisons between files at their final online playback loudness. It’s so quick and easy that it’s now my go-to method.”
The website is free to use, with no sign-up required, but also allows you to opt-in for a free email course that goes into more detail about how each service controls your music’s playback, and how to optimize your music for online streaming.
